UCSD Extension: Earthquake Engineering

EARTHQUAKE GROUND MOTIONS

Most of the practice of civil engineering in San Diego area rests on the understanding of the seismic environment. This course will recall basic concepts on earthquake ground motions, revisit them in the light of latest developments, and aid to the understanding, interpretation and application of earthquake design codes and regulations. This course is designed for practitioners in the fields of geotechnical engineering, structural engineering, geology and earth sciences who know earthquake basics but need a refresh and update of latest developments in the field.

Jorge F. Meneses, PhD, PE has more than 20 years of professional experience in the field of geotechnical earthquake engineering including consulting, project management, research and teaching. He is a frequent speaker at national and international conferences, reviewer of journals and conference papers, and has more than 40 technical publications. Dr. Meneses received his Master and Ph.D. degrees under the supervision of Professor Kenji Ishihara at the University of Tokyo, Japan.
