Presentation Outline:
Compares the design and construction costs of parking lots built with portland cement concrete, pervious concrete, and asphalt concrete. Consideration is given not only to normal environmental factors, but also to the capture and control of storm water.
Biographical sketch:
David Akers has been involved with concrete materials since 1971 when he was hired as a part-time lab tech to cap and break cylinders. Since that time he has gained concrete materials engineering expertise overseeing construction of a nuclear research reactor in Istanbul, Turkeyand providing engineering support services for construction of a turbine overhaul facility in Veracruz, Mexico. Additionally, he was vice president of Southern California Soil and Testing, Inc. for eleven years and with the California Nevada Cement Association for sixteen. David has been published in American Society of Civil Engineers and American Concrete Institute publications. He is a Fellow of both ASCE and ACI. David is a past president of the San Diego International Chapter twice and chaired the local organizing committee for the 1989 ACIfall convention held in San Diego.
