This past November, I had the privilege of representing our outstanding ACI chapter at the ACI Chapter Roundtable held in Las Vegas. This was a “best practices” conference attended by 40 chapter officers from ACI chapters all over the Western US.
At this meeting, I shared what we do in San Diego and heard from others around the country. I listened to what they do best, where they feel pain, what they believe would make them a better chapter to serve their members. They shared excellent ideas on programs, student involvement, awards events, golf tournaments, member recruitment, and chapter organization.
I’ll be sharing many of these ideas with your board members. Soon, your San Diego chapter may be incorporating the best ideas to benefit you, our chapter member!
“Communicate and Educate – Don’t litigate!”
This is one of the concepts that I took away from our last program on “Mitigating moisture problems in concrete slabs on ground.”
This fit in nicely with the chapter’s mission of educating and being a forum for the discussion of all matters related to concrete and the development of solutions to problems. Many thanks to Ralph Godfrey, of Ralph Godfrey and Associates, for volunteering as a presenter for this important subject.
Remember, your chapter board is made up of volunteers representing many aspects of the concrete construction community. We have a general contractor, concrete contractor, ready mix companies, engineering company, a fiber company, university engineering departments and admixture companies. These firms bring diversity to the board and allow their employees to donate their time to add value to the chapter – and therefore add value to the members.
I thank the board members and their companies for their energy and commitment to the industry! It is a pleasure serving with you.
